Ne involves an open-ended exploration of ideas, lending itself to the arts, entrepreneurship, inventorship, as well as scholarship. As an open-ended Perceiving function, Ne is comfortable with ambiguity, seeing ideas as fluid and contextual. Consequently, many subjects in the humanities (e.g., religion, philosophy, history, literature, languages), as well as journalism, can be good fits for NP types.
Since Ti is paired with Fe in their functional stack, INTPs are often, though certainly not always, drawn to human systems and subjects (Fe)—psychology, the humanities, social sciences, etc. However, because they still seek what we might call “harder” sorts of truth (static concepts, theories, frameworks, etc.), many fail to feel entirely at home in the more open-ended humanities.
